The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has praised the Supreme Court’s ruling on Friday, which nullified the recent local government elections in Rivers State and upheld the legitimacy of the 27-member Martin Amaewhule-led State Assembly.

Speaking in Abuja after the judgment, Wike stated that the apex court’s decision marks the end of impunity in Rivers State.

The former Rivers governor also criticized former Vice President Atiku Abubakar and the Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Governors’ Forum, Bauchi State Governor Bala Mohammed, accusing them of endorsing unlawful actions in the state.

Wike emphasized that Governor Siminalayi Fubara has no option but to comply with the Supreme Court’s ruling, as it serves as the final legal authority on the matter.

The verdict represents a significant development in Rivers State’s ongoing political crisis, solidifying the authority of the Amaewhule-led Assembly while officially annulling the disputed local government elections.
