Governors from Nigeria’s North-East region, comprising Adamawa, Bauchi, Borno, Gombe, Taraba, and Yobe states, have pledged to collaborate with the National Commission for Almajiri and Out-of-School Children Education (NCAOOSCE) by providing office spaces within their states.

This was contained in the communique read by Taraba State Governor, Agbu Kefas, at the conclusion of the North-East Governors’ Forum meeting held on Thursday in Damaturu, Yobe State’s capital. The forum also expressed commitment to supporting the enrolment of Almajiri and out-of-school children into formal education systems.

“Forum resolved to work closely with the National Commission for Almajiri and Out-of-School Children Education (NCAOOSCE) by providing office space in each state, support the enrolment of Almajiri and out-of-school children into formal school, provision of vocational and technical education as well as develop a unified approach to addressing the menace in the sub-region,” the communique read in part.

The governors also expressed concern over the renewed activities of insurgents in the sub-region. They urged the Armed Forces, security agencies, and community leaders to reassess and strengthen their counter-insurgency efforts.

“Forum notes that addressing the security challenge in the Northeast requires a multidimensional approach of not only the kinetic strategy but also address the root causes such as youth employment through vocational and technical education, improved road networks, improving education and reducing poverty.

“The Forum is committed to addressing the issues of security by tackling the current situation while addressing some of the root causes.”

The Forum acknowledged the strategic importance of the Nigerian Law School, Yola Campus, and resolved to support its development by providing additional hostel accommodations, water supply, and other necessary facilities to boost its admission capacity and learning environment.

While commending the Federal Government and the Military for efforts in combating Boko Haram, the Forum reaffirmed its dedication to addressing common challenges affecting the region through unified action on matters of security, social welfare, and economic integration.
