Nollywood actor Godwin Nnadiekwe has been hospitalized after suffering internal bleeding reportedly caused by an unplanned kick to the chest from fellow actor Zubby Michael during the filming of a movie.
The incident, which occurred on set, prompted an official statement from Nnadiekwe’s management on Saturday evening. The statement confirmed that the actor is currently receiving medical treatment and assured the public and the Actors Guild of Nigeria (AGN) that updates on his condition will be provided.
We regret to inform you that Actor Godwin Nnadiekwe was rushed to the hospital this evening. He is undergoing treatment for internal bleeding following an incident involving a kick on the chest during filming with his colleague Zubby Michael, the statement read.
In a separate message posted on Instagram hours earlier, Nnadiekwe detailed the circumstances of the incident, revealing that Michael’s kick was not scripted nor directed, raising concerns about safety protocols on Nollywood sets.
He emphasized the need for rehearsed and supervised physical scenes, readily available first aid, structured insurance coverage, and strict adherence to directorial instructions. “Every action on set, particularly physical ones, must be intentional and within the director’s vision. Our health and safety are paramount,” he stated.
The incident has sparked fresh conversation around safety standards and actor welfare in Nollywood, an industry known for its fast-paced and high-pressure production environments.
Nnadiekwe is expected to remain under observation while he recovers.
