The National Working Committee of the New Nigeria People’s Party has declared invalid the suspension of its Kano State Chairman, Hashimu Dungurawa, insisting that the action has no standing within the party’s constitutional framework.
Dungurawa was reportedly suspended on Monday by executive members of the NNPP in Gargari Ward, Dawakin Tofa Local Government Area, who accused him of creating division within the party and encouraging internal discord.
Following the development, the party’s Kano State executive committee on Tuesday announced the appointment of Abdullahi Abiya as acting chairman.
However, in a statement issued by the party’s spokesperson, Ladipo Johnson, the NNPP rejected the suspension, describing it as “misplaced, undemocratic, null and void, and entirely without effect.” The party said the move amounted to a serious breach of party discipline and constituted gross anti-party conduct, in violation of provisions of the NNPP constitution.
Johnson further described Dungurawa as a “dedicated, diligent, and responsible chairman,” noting that his leadership and consistent performance had played a major role in strengthening and expanding the party’s presence in Kano State.
