The Federal Government has reaffirmed its commitment to the growth and modernization of Nigeria’s aviation industry through the adoption of advanced technology. The initiative aims to enhance operational efficiency, improve passenger experience, and strengthen safety measures within the sector.

Speaking at the 25th-anniversary symposium of the Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA) in Abuja, Aviation Minister Festus Keyamo, represented by Permanent Secretary Dr. Ibrahim Kana, underscored the critical role of technological advancements in the future of the aviation industry. The symposium, themed “Human Capital Development: Upskilling the Next Generation of Aviators,” emphasized the importance of continuous innovation and strategic planning to maintain and improve aviation safety.

Keyamo noted that sustaining Nigeria’s aviation progress requires consistent stakeholder collaboration, regulatory improvements, and cutting-edge technological adoption. He emphasized that aviation safety is not a one-time achievement but a continuous process that evolves with global trends and increasing passenger demands. He reiterated that the NCAA’s success over the last 25 years must be safeguarded through deliberate planning and commitment to international best practices.

He further stated that the symposium represents a collective resolve to reposition Nigeria’s aviation sector for economic growth and global competitiveness. He expressed optimism that integrating advanced technologies into aviation operations would significantly contribute to economic development while ensuring exceptionally safe and secure air travel for Nigerians.

In his remarks, NCAA Director-General Capt. Chris Najomo highlighted the regulatory body’s vital role in shaping Nigeria’s aviation landscape. He stated that the NCAA has played a significant role in maintaining safety standards, fostering industry growth, and ensuring regulatory compliance. He described the event as a reflection of the aviation sector’s commitment to continuous improvement, collaboration, and strategic planning.

Najomo also traced the agency’s journey from its inception as the Civil Aviation Department (CAD) to its present status as a leading regulatory body. He emphasized that NCAA has undergone various transformations, including regulatory reforms, advancements in aviation safety, and improved service delivery. He acknowledged the efforts of past administrations and stakeholders in building the agency into a globally recognized aviation authority.

As part of its future roadmap, Najomo stated that NCAA is guided by Minister Keyamo’s Five-Point Agenda and President Bola Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda. These policies emphasize infrastructure development, economic growth, job creation, and safety enhancement. He assured stakeholders that NCAA remains committed to providing a robust regulatory framework, fostering a business-friendly environment, and improving Nigeria’s aviation sector’s competitiveness.

The Director-General called on stakeholders to continue supporting the NCAA’s initiatives, as their contributions remain instrumental in shaping the success of the industry. He also commended the dedication and resilience of NCAA staff, emphasizing their critical role in achieving regulatory milestones and sustaining industry standards.

“As we mark 25 years of excellence, we must also look ahead to the future by embracing innovation, improving operational efficiencies, and forming strategic partnerships that will elevate Nigeria’s aviation industry to greater heights,” Najomo stated.

He concluded by reaffirming the agency’s commitment to upholding the highest standards of aviation safety, operational efficiency, and global best practices. As the industry looks ahead to the next 25 years, he urged stakeholders to work together in ensuring that Nigeria’s aviation sector remains at the forefront of innovation and regulatory excellence.
