The Nigeria Police Force (NPF) has refuted claims that the disbanded Special Anti-Robbery Squad (SARS) is making a return, emphasizing that the controversial unit remains dissolved.

In a statement on Sunday, the Force Public Relations Officer (FPRO), ACP Olumuyiwa Adejobi, clarified that SARS, which was officially disbanded on October 11, 2020, has not been reinstated in any capacity.

“The Special Anti-Robbery Squad (SARS) is not back in operation. The recent information regarding SARS reformation and rules of engagement should be treated with caution,” Adejobi stated.

The clarification follows widespread social media speculation that SARS was being revived under a new structure with revised operational guidelines. However, the NPF urged Nigerians to disregard such claims and rely on verified sources for security-related updates.

To combat misinformation, the police directed citizens to follow its official communication channels, including @PoliceNG on X (formerly Twitter), @ngpolice on Facebook, and @nigeriapoliceforce on Instagram.

The statement reassured Nigerians of the police force’s commitment to transparency, accountability, and public safety.
