The National Examinations Council (NECO) has distanced itself from a fraudulent Facebook account created in the name of its Registrar and Chief Executive Officer, Prof. Dantani Ibrahim Wushishi.
In a statement signed by the Council’s Acting Director of Information and Public Relations, Azeez Sani, NECO made it clear that the fake account was established with the intent to deceive and defraud unsuspecting members of the public.
“The Council wishes to draw the attention of the public to the existence of this fake Facebook account in order to avoid being swindled by the fraudsters,” the statement read.
The Council emphasized that the impersonation is a deliberate scheme by fraudsters aiming to exploit the Registrar’s identity for illicit gain. NECO urged the public to exercise caution and avoid engaging with the fraudulent account or any requests that may arise from it.
Furthermore, the examination body confirmed that security agencies have been notified of the situation and have been mandated to track down and take necessary action against those behind the scam.
