The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA), Kano Strategic Command, has intercepted 64 bags of cannabis sativa hidden inside a trailer transporting cement along the Kano–Zaria Road.
In a statement released on Friday, the Command’s Public Relations Officer, Assistant Superintendent of Narcotics Sadiq Maigatari, disclosed that the seizure occurred on February 2, 2026. The operation was carried out by officers from the Kiru Area Command following intelligence gathering and sustained surveillance.
According to the statement, the trailer, loaded with Dangote Cement, had departed Obajana in Kogi State and was heading to Mubi in Adamawa State before it was intercepted along the Zaria–Kano Road.

“The trailer, loaded with Dangote Cement, departed Obajana in Kogi State and was en route to Mubi in Adamawa State when it was stopped along the Zaria–Kano Road.
“The driver has been arrested and is currently in NDLEA custody pending further investigation,” the statement partly read.
Speaking on the development, the NDLEA State Commander, D.Y. Lawal, said the success of the operation stemmed from thorough intelligence work and the commitment of personnel involved.
He noted that the illicit drugs were concealed within legitimate goods and were suspected to have been destined for distribution within Kano ahead of the Ramadan period.
“We will not allow drug traffickers to endanger the safety and spiritual well-being of our communities,” he said.
In compliance with directives from the Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of the agency, Mohamed Buba Marwa, the Kano Command said it would strengthen surveillance activities, intensify patrols, and reinforce checkpoints across the state to curb drug trafficking.
The command further stated that investigations are ongoing to dismantle the network responsible for the shipment, with efforts underway to identify and arrest all individuals linked to the operation. It assured that anyone found culpable would face prosecution in accordance with the law.

The agency also urged members of the public to remain alert and report suspicious activities or credible information related to drug trafficking to the nearest NDLEA office or through official communication channels.
“Continued community cooperation is essential to protect citizens and preserve the peace and sanctity of communal and religious observances,” the statement added.
