Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan has been indicted over allegations she made linking Senate President Godswill Akpabio to the killing of late Iniobong Umoren and the alleged removal of her organs.
According to Premium Times, the allegation, reportedly shared with a US-based activist, prompted a police investigation that concluded the claims were false.
The report, dated February 3, 2026, and signed by the Commissioner of Police at the Force Headquarters in Abuja, examined a petition submitted by Sandra Duru of the Unique Family Foundation.
Duru alleged that Akpoti-Uduaghan contacted her on March 27, 2025, accusing Akpabio and his wife of being involved in Umoren’s death and using her organs for medical purposes.
The petitioner requested a full investigation into the matter.
The conflict between Akpabio and Akpoti-Uduaghan began in February 2025 when the Kogi Central lawmaker accused the Senate leadership of unfair treatment.
Akpoti-Uduaghan was suspended from the Senate for six months amid allegations of sexual harassment against Akpabio, which he denied.
Their disagreements later intensified in public media exchanges.
During the investigation, Akpoti-Uduaghan denied making the claims in a statement given on April 28, 2025.
A witness who connected her to Duru also provided details of the communication. Forensic analysis of the audio confirmed that the voice was genuine.
Police officers visited Akwa Ibom State to review the murder case of Iniobong Umoren.
They examined post-mortem reports, trial records, and interviewed the deceased’s family. Investigators found that no organs were removed, and Umoren’s family confirmed this.
Trial documents also showed that Uduak Frank Akpan was convicted and sentenced to death for the murder in 2021.
The police concluded that the claim about organ harvesting was false and that Akpabio and his wife were not involved in the murder.
Following Duru’s petition and the police findings, the Attorney-General’s office filed criminal defamation charges against Akpoti-Uduaghan on March 29, 2025.
The charges, under sections of the Penal Code in the Federal Capital Territory, were later withdrawn after Akpabio chose not to pursue prosecution.
Police noted that Duru’s action helped clarify public confusion around the allegation.
