Chelsea manager Enzo Maresca has reaffirmed his commitment to rotating his squad as the team continues its campaign across four competitions this season.
Speaking ahead of their League Cup fourth-round tie against Wolves on Wednesday, Maresca emphasized the importance of managing player workload following their 2-1 home defeat to Sunderland in the Premier League.

The Italian coach, who made 10 changes in Chelsea’s impressive 5-1 Champions League victory over Ajax last week, said squad rotation is vital for maintaining balance and preventing fatigue.
“We need to rotate,” Maresca stated on Tuesday. “We need to protect the players because if we go with the same XI, we are going to struggle during the season.”
He went on to hint at potential changes for the Wolves clash, saying, “We probably will make some changes against Wolves, I don’t know how many, but we will make changes. I don’t know if it’s going to be nine or 10 like it was from (Nottingham) Forest to Ajax, but for sure, we need to make some to rotate and help protect the players.”

There was, however, a boost for the Blues as striker Liam Delap—signed from relegated Ipswich—has been declared fit after recovering from a hamstring injury sustained in August.
“Liam completed the whole session with us yesterday with no problems, and he is available for tomorrow,” Maresca confirmed. “We have to be careful with Liam and it is unlikely he will play 90 minutes, no. He has been out for two months, so he needs to be gradually brought back up to 100 percent.”

Enzo Maresca, who took charge of Chelsea with a focus on developing a fluid, high-pressing style, has been strategically rotating his squad to handle the physical demands of competing in multiple tournaments.
His approach reflects an emphasis on long-term squad health and performance consistency, especially as Chelsea seeks success both domestically and in Europe this season.
