Nigerian rapper Lil Kesh discussed his mental health challenges on The Esther Show, revealing a self-diagnosed case of ADHD and struggles with anxiety.
He described experiencing symptoms since childhood that go beyond typical hyperactivity, stating, “I know it’s a disorder when it gets to my level.”
He noted that anxiety often stems from emotional uncertainty, but understanding his feelings helps alleviate it.
“Dealing with things, anything can cause anxiety. But I believe that a lack of clarity can cause anxiety for me. Once I know what I’m dealing with or what type of emotions I’m dealing with, then my problem is half solved and the anxiety goes away.”
Lil Kesh has avoided therapy due to trust issues and inadequate mental health resources in Nigeria, saying, “When I needed help, it wasn’t there.” He also commented on Nigeria’s systemic problems, like poor governance and infrastructure, predicting that significant change will take years.
He encouraged Nigerians to stay realistic but persistent, contrasting Nigeria’s challenges with the UK’s more structured and empowered society.
