A member of the House of Representatives, Joshua Chinedu Obika, has announced his resignation from the Labour Party.
Obika, who represents the AMAC/Bwari Federal Constituency of the Federal Capital Territory, said he is leaving the Labour Party to join the All Progressives Congress (APC).

He made the announcement publicly on Wednesday, March 11, during proceedings on the floor of the House of Representatives, also known as the Green Chamber.
According to the lawmaker, the internal leadership crisis affecting the Labour Party forced him to leave the party and defect to the APC.
Obika also stated that he believes the APC will give him the opportunity and platform needed to advance his political career.
He added that joining the ruling party will give him a better chance to serve the people of his constituency effectively.
After receiving the notice of his defection, the Speaker of the House of Representatives, Tajudeen Abbas, welcomed the lawmaker to the APC.
More details are expected later.
