The Lagos State Government on Thursday commenced the demolition of unsafe and illegal buildings at the Trade Fair Complex in Ojo, in an exercise aimed at restoring order and enforcing physical planning laws.
The operation was jointly conducted by the Ministry of Physical Planning, the Lagos State Building Control Agency, the Lagos State Urban Renewal Agency, and the Lagos State Physical Planning Permit Authority. Security agencies were also on ground to provide backup, while members of the Lagos State House of Assembly and the Office of Infrastructure monitored the process.

Senior Special Assistant on New Media to Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu, Jubril Gawat, confirmed the development in a post on X, noting that the government was determined to clamp down on unauthorized structures.
He explained that the demolition was focused on “illegal developments, structures without statutory approvals, defective structures, and buildings erected on road setbacks and drainages.”
Officials at the site said the move was part of broader efforts to ensure that structures within the state comply with physical planning regulations and safety standards.
