Controversial Nigerian entertainer Darlington Okoye, popularly known as Speed Darlington or Akpi, is under intense scrutiny following a viral Instagram Live video in which he allegedly confessed to engaging in sexual activity with a 15-year-old girl.
The Lagos State Domestic and Sexual Violence Agency (DSVA) has launched an investigation and escalated the matter to the National Agency for the Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons (NAPTIP) for further action.
In the video, narrated in Igbo, Darlington reportedly described an incident at an unnamed hotel where he claimed the minor was left bleeding after the encounter. He further alleged paying hotel staff N2,000 to replace the bedsheets.
The graphic nature of his statements sparked widespread outrage on social media, with many Nigerians calling for his immediate arrest and prosecution.
The DSVA, in a statement posted on X, acknowledged the “disturbing video currently circulating online” and clarified that while the location of the alleged incident was not specified, their jurisdiction is limited to Lagos State. “In line with our commitment to justice, we have escalated the situation to the National Agency for the Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons,” the agency stated, reaffirming Lagos State’s zero-tolerance policy on sexual and gender-based violence.
Public reaction has been swift and vocal, with hashtags demanding accountability trending across platforms. The DSVA has urged anyone with relevant information to assist the investigation by contacting their toll-free line or via direct messages on their official social media channels.
This is not the first time Spead Darlington has faced legal trouble. In October 2024, he was detained in Abuja following a petition reportedly filed by fellow musician Burna Boy, though details of that case remain separate from the current allegations.
As the investigation unfolds, authorities are under pressure to ensure swift justice, with NAPTIP now tasked with determining the next steps in this case.
