Ruth Otabor, the sister of Big Brother Naija Season 7 winner, Phyna, has died, leaving her family and loved ones in deep mourning.
Her passing was confirmed on Sunday through a statement released by Eko Solicitors & Advocates on behalf of the family, which Phyna also shared on her Instagram page.
According to the statement, Ruth passed away around 6:30 a.m. on August 31, 2025.
“With a heavy heart, the family regrets to announce the passing on to glory of their daughter, sister, and mother on this 31st Day of August, 2025 at about 06:30Hrs,” the statement read.

The grieving family also appealed for privacy as they come to terms with the loss.
“The family is presently grieving and will appreciate to be given a private moment to mourn the departed.
“The funeral arrangement will be communicated to the public in due course,” the statement added.
Ruth’s passing comes just weeks after she was involved in a devastating accident.
On August 13, 2025, she was struck by a truck owned by the Dangote Group near Auchi Polytechnic in Edo State.
The collision left her critically injured, with her leg crushed. Doctors were later forced to amputate the leg in an effort to save her life. Eyewitnesses revealed that the truck was only brought to a stop by a courageous bystander.
The tragedy occurred just six days after Ruth had celebrated her graduation from Auchi Polytechnic, making the news of her death even more heartbreaking.
Her sudden departure has thrown her family, friends, and fans into mourning, with many expressing shock at how quickly her health declined after the accident.
