The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has extended the deadline for universities to submit Post-UTME screening scores of underage candidates who sat for the 2025 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME).
The board’s spokesperson, Fabian Benjamin, made the announcement in a statement on Thursday, explaining that the extension was reached in collaboration with the affected institutions. He added that reminders had been sent via email to the defaulting universities.
Benjamin noted that despite the release of the 2025 Senior School Certificate Examination results by the National Examinations Council (NECO) on September 17, several institutions had failed to comply. He urged them to forward the results without delay.

According to him, 23 out of 71 universities missed the initial September 15 deadline. He directed public universities to upload their recommended candidates to the Central Admissions Processing System (CAPS) on or before September 30, while private institutions have until October 31.
The new deadlines are in line with JAMB’s overall admission schedule, October 30 for public universities and November 30 for private institutions.
Benjamin revealed that the University of Lagos topped the list with 39 underage candidates, followed by Nile University of Nigeria with 18, and Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Awka, with 15. Other institutions include the University of Abuja (12), University of Uyo (nine), Federal University of Technology, Owerri (eight), and David Umahi Federal University of Health Sciences, Uburu (six).

In total, 135 underage candidates across 23 institutions are involved.
JAMB had earlier announced that a special screening would be held for over 500 outstanding underage candidates between September 22 and 26 in Lagos, Abuja, and Owerri. Registrar Prof. Ishaq Oloyede said the committee overseeing the exercise would ensure compliance with admission regulations.
While 41,027 underage candidates wrote the 2025 UTME, only a little over 500 qualified to proceed to the next stage.
