The Independent National Electoral Commission on Monday issued a new nationwide update, revealing that a total of 2,685,725 Nigerians have so far registered as part of the ongoing Continuous Voter Registration conducted both online and through physical centres.

In its announcement shared on the commission’s X handle, INEC disclosed that 1,576,137 applicants successfully completed their online pre-registration, while an additional 1,109,588 finalised their registration at physical centres across the country.

The figures confirmed Osun State’s position at the top of the national chart, maintaining its strong lead in the current CVR exercise. The state recorded 208,357 registrations, keeping its hold ahead of other states. Kano followed with 159,669, while Sokoto posted 152,650. Imo recorded 145,561, Borno had 123,835, Lagos reached 123,484, and Jigawa registered 116,246.

The Federal Capital Territory recorded 106,855 new registrations, while Kogi followed with 103,750 and Zamfara with 101,511. Katsina registered 98,968, Delta recorded 91,562, Kaduna 89,899, Ogun 85,739, Kebbi 83,480, Niger 79,785, Oyo 74,756, Akwa Ibom 74,015, and Rivers 70,902.

Adamawa registered 57,312 new voters, with Yobe close behind at 53,523. Benue posted 53,207, Bayelsa recorded 47,439, Bauchi had 40,534, Gombe 35,428, Ekiti 35,150, Nasarawa 35,013, Edo 33,600, Ebonyi 30,691, Plateau 26,360, and Taraba 20,312. Enugu recorded 19,275, Ondo 17,542, Cross River 16,822, and Abia 16,691.

INEC had previously announced that the first quarter of the nationwide CVR exercise would conclude on December 10, 2025. The commission also restated that registration activities in Anambra State remain suspended due to “electoral activities,” noting that a new resumption date would be communicated when appropriate.

The CVR process began with online pre-registration on August 18, 2025, followed by in-person registration across all 774 local government areas, at state offices, and in the FCT. According to the commission, the exercise forms part of broader preparations ahead of the forthcoming elections.

INEC added that it will begin the Display of the Register of Voters for Claims and Objections from December 15 to 21, in compliance with Section 19 of the Electoral Act 2022. This display will occur in the local government offices where registrations were conducted.

The commission encouraged citizens—especially those who registered, transferred their details, or made updates during the first quarter—to use the review window to confirm their information and raise objections when needed. INEC stressed that the involvement of the public remains essential in safeguarding the credibility of the voter register.

The second phase of the nationwide CVR exercise is set to resume on January 5, 2026, in line with the previously released timetable.

What you should know

INEC’s latest update highlights the growing public engagement as more than 2.6 million people have completed their voter registration across the country.

Osun State continues to lead the figures, showing strong civic interest in the electoral process. The commission has also emphasised the importance of public involvement during the claims and objections period to ensure accuracy in the voter register.

With the first quarter ending on December 10 and the second phase beginning in January 2026, the CVR exercise remains a crucial step in preparing for the next general elections, strengthening transparency and voter participation nationwide.
