The Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) has introduced a four-year strategic plan (2024-2028) aimed at intensifying the fight against corruption in Nigeria.

During a breakfast meeting with media editors in Abuja, ICPC Chairman, Dr. Musa Aliyu Adamu (SAN), outlined key areas of focus, including judicial and legislative advocacy, technological improvements, effective case management, and enhanced staff welfare. The plan was developed after evaluating the previous strategy (2019-2023), identifying successes and areas for improvement.

Addressing existing challenges such as political interference, financial constraints, judicial delays, and technological vulnerabilities, Adamu noted that collaboration with the National Judicial Council and National Judicial Institute will help tackle these issues. The commission also plans to enhance public awareness using ethics policies, compliance scorecards, and ICT upgrades while advocating for amendments to the ICPC Act to improve operational efficiency.

The strategic plan is anchored on core values encapsulated in the acronym ACTION—Accountability, Collaboration, Tenacity, Integrity, Ownership, and Nurturing Excellence. These principles will guide the commission’s activities over the next four years.

Adamu highlighted the ICPC’s recent achievements, including the recovery of over N20 billion in pension deductions from ghost workers and the prevention of N50 billion in government funds from being misappropriated in 2023. He revealed that individuals involved in payroll fraud, including a suspect who illegally inserted family members into the government payroll, have been arrested.

Seeking media support, Adamu emphasized the need for Nigerians to stop celebrating corrupt individuals and called for legal reforms to deter corruption. He reaffirmed the commission’s commitment to transparency, public engagement, and proactive anti-corruption measures aligned with the National Anti-Corruption Strategy.

At the meeting’s conclusion, Hussaina Akila, Director of News at the Federal Radio Corporation of Nigeria, commended the ICPC’s leadership and pledged continued media support in the fight against corruption.
