Dane passed away on Thursday, February 19, 2026, following a courageous battle with amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS), the progressive neurodegenerative disease also known as Lou Gehrig’s disease.
His family confirmed the news in a statement: “With heavy hearts, we share that Eric Dane passed on Thursday afternoon following a courageous battle with ALS. He spent his final days surrounded by dear friends, his devoted wife, and his two beautiful daughters, Billie and Georgia.”
The actor publicly announced his ALS diagnosis in April 2025, just under a year before his death. In the months that followed, he became a passionate advocate, raising awareness and supporting research efforts for the disease while continuing to work where possible.
Born in San Francisco, Dane began his career with early TV appearances, including a 1991 episode of “Saved by the Bell.” He rose to fame in 2006 as the charming plastic surgeon on “Grey’s Anatomy,” appearing in 139 episodes until 2012 (with later guest returns).
He later starred in “The Last Ship” and earned praise for his role as Cal Jacobs in HBO’s “Euphoria.”
