Plateau State Governor, Caleb Mutfwang, has been formally issued the All Progressives Congress (APC) membership card in a ceremony that further confirms his defection to the ruling party.
The governor was presented with the membership card, numbered 001, during an event held at the Government House in Jos.

The ceremony took place at the Victoria Gowon Hall and attracted a large crowd of APC stakeholders, party executives, and notable political figures from Plateau State and other parts of the country.
The formal presentation of the APC membership card to Governor Mutfwang is being regarded as a landmark development in the political history of Plateau State.
Observers have described the event as a major shift in the state’s political direction and a defining moment in its evolving political landscape.
The ceremony also highlighted the expanding presence and growing dominance of the APC within the state.
It is seen as setting the stage for fresh political realignments as the state prepares for future political activities and engagements.

Party leaders and supporters who attended the event described the governor’s formal induction as the beginning of a new political chapter in Plateau State, expressing optimism about stronger party unity and wider political inclusion under the APC platform.
The ruling party had earlier announced Governor Mutfwang’s defection from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in December.
The APC National Chairman, Nentawe Yelwata, who hails from Plateau State, publicly disclosed the governor’s defection during the party’s 14th national caucus meeting held at the State House Conference Centre in Abuja.
Yelwata stated that with Mutfwang’s defection, the entire North Central region was now under the control of the APC.

Governor Mutfwang was elected on the platform of the PDP in the 2023 general elections and has now joined a growing list of governors who have left the main opposition party for the APC.
Other governors who have recently defected to the APC include Peter Mbah of Enugu State, Douye Diri of Bayelsa State, Agbu Kefas of Taraba State, and Umo Eno of Akwa Ibom State.
