Benue State Governor, Hyacinth Alia, has vehemently denounced the recent violent incidents that led to the death of two Igede youths along the Awajir-Oju road.
According to security sources, the young victims were ambushed while traveling on a motorcycle from Oju.
In a separate but equally troubling development, Governor Alia also expressed disapproval over an attack on Nyifon community in Mbaikyongo Ward, situated in Buruku Local Government Area. This assault, reportedly triggered by tensions related to a boat accident, was allegedly perpetrated by youths from Mbayaka, a community in Kusuv, also located within Buruku LGA.
Describing both episodes as “deeply regrettable and unjustifiable,” Governor Alia emphasized that no person or group is entitled to trespass on another community or inflict harm under any pretext. He maintained that such actions are unacceptable and go against the efforts being made to uphold peace and order in the state.
In a decisive response to the violence, Governor Alia directed security agencies to work in tandem with local traditional leaders to comb the affected regions and restore calm. He issued a firm order that the individuals responsible for the attacks must be tracked down and brought to justice within 48 hours.
Stressing his administration’s resolve, the governor reaffirmed that Benue State is making significant strides toward enhanced security, and he will not allow any act that seeks to reverse that progress. He called on residents to cooperate fully with authorities and to refrain from actions that could escalate tensions further.
While assuring the public of the government’s continuous efforts to protect lives and property, Governor Alia urged communities across the state to embrace peace and unity as investigations continue.
