The global Christian community is mourning the death of renowned American worship leader, singer, and songwriter Dr. Ron Kenoly, who passed away on February 3, 2026, at the age of 81.
The news was confirmed on Tuesday by his longtime music director, Bruno Miranda, in a statement shared on Kenoly’s official Instagram page. While the cause of death was not disclosed, tributes have continued to pour in from worship leaders, church leaders, and gospel music lovers across the world, celebrating a life widely regarded as foundational to contemporary Christian worship.

In an emotional tribute, Miranda described Kenoly as more than a musical icon, calling him a mentor, pastor, and spiritual father who embodied the true meaning of worship.
“This morning, Feb. 3, 2026, we said goodbye to Dr. Ron Kenoly,” the statement read. “For over 20 years, I had the honor of walking alongside him in ministry around the world—not just as his music director, but as a son, a student, and a witness to a life marked by faithfulness.”
Miranda emphasized that Kenoly never viewed himself as an entertainer but as a worship leader whose primary calling was to guide people into reverent communion with God.
“He was very intentional about one thing: he was never an artist, never an entertainer. He was a worship leader,” Miranda said, adding that Kenoly consistently taught that worship was rooted in gratitude for Christ’s finished work, not personal expectations.
According to Miranda, the integrity Kenoly displayed on stage was the same standard he upheld in private life. “He taught me that worship begins long before the first note is played, shaped by obedience, character, and a deep fear of the Lord,” he said, concluding that while the loss is deeply felt, it is one borne with hope.
“The worship he lived is now the worship he beholds.”
Born on December 6, 1944, in Coffeyville, Kansas, Ron Kenoly relocated to Hollywood, California, after high school. He later served in the United States Air Force between 1965 and 1968, during which he performed with a cover band, the Mellow Fellows, touring military bases and honing his musical craft.
After completing his military service, Kenoly returned to Los Angeles and committed fully to music ministry. His influence grew steadily, but his breakthrough came in 1992 with the release of Lift Him, which became the fastest-selling worship album of its time and cemented his place as one of the most influential voices in modern Christian worship.
Over the decades, Kenoly released several landmark albums that shaped congregational worship across continents. His discography includes Jesus Is Alive (1991), Ancient of Days (1992), God Is Able (1994), Sing Out With One Voice (1995), Welcome Home (1996), and High Places: The Best of Ron Kenoly. His songs remain staples in churches worldwide, transcending generations and cultural boundaries.
In Nigeria, prominent gospel figures and church leaders paid glowing tributes to the late worship leader. Renowned gospel singer Nathaniel Bassey described Kenoly as a foundational inspiration to his ministry and countless others.

“Dr. Ron Kenoly crosses to the yonder side. Thank you for inspiring generations of psalmists like me. I grew up on these songs, and today, others are growing up on ours. Thank you, Sir,” Bassey wrote on Instagram.
Gospel singer Frank Edwards also mourned the loss, highlighting Kenoly’s global impact. “Life well lived, Heaven’s gain. Thank you for the music, and thank you for the impact! Rest well, Dr. Ron Kenoly,” he said.

The President of the Pentecostal Fellowship of Nigeria (PFN), Bishop Wale Oke, in a statement titled Farewell to a True Worshipper, commiserated with Kenoly’s family and offered prayers for divine comfort.
“We commiserate with his beloved family—his wife, children, and grandchildren—and pray that the Holy Spirit will comfort, strengthen, and abide with them at this critical time,” Bishop Oke stated.
As tributes continue to flow, Dr. Ron Kenoly is being remembered not just for his music but for a life devoted to leading hearts into authentic worship—an enduring legacy that continues to echo in churches and lives around the world.
