A devastating accident at Karu Bridge near Nyanya, Abuja, has left multiple casualties and extensive damage after a fully loaded fuel tanker suffered brake failure, colliding with several vehicles and triggering a massive explosion.
Eyewitnesses reported that the tanker, carrying both liquid fuel and compressed natural gas (CNG) cylinders, lost control and crashed, setting off a series of powerful blasts. The force of the explosions sent debris flying up to 900 meters, with fireballs rising as high as 700 meters into the sky.
“I saw the tanker coming at high speed, swerving dangerously before it crashed. Within seconds, there was an explosion, and fire spread everywhere,” a survivor recounted.
Several vehicles were instantly consumed by the flames, trapping occupants inside, while nearby buildings and structures suffered severe damage. Emergency responders, including fire service teams and medical personnel, arrived swiftly to battle the inferno and rescue victims.
Authorities have yet to confirm the total number of casualties, but reports indicate multiple fatalities and injuries due to the intensity of the fire and explosions. Investigations are ongoing to determine the exact cause of the accident and assess the full extent of the devastation.
