Former House Of Reps Speaker Dumps Party, Joins ADC
Former Speaker of the House of Representatives and former Sokoto State Governor, Aminu Tambuwal, has resigned from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and moved to the African Democratic Congress (ADC).
Tambuwal made the announcement in the early hours of Thursday through a statement shared on his X account.
In the statement, he said he had already submitted a written resignation to the chairman of his ward before officially joining the ADC with his political associates and loyal supporters.
The former governor explained that his decision followed long consultations and personal reflection about the current situation within the PDP.
According to him, the party has been dealing with ongoing internal disputes, disagreements among leaders and growing divisions that have continued to affect its unity.
He stated that the challenges inside the party have made it difficult for him to remain a member.
Tambuwal noted that the disagreements and internal struggles have gradually weakened the structure and direction that once defined the party.
Tambuwal also spoke about the role the PDP played in his political journey. He acknowledged that the party gave him the opportunity to grow politically and helped shape his career in public service.
During his time in the PDP, he served as Speaker of the House of Representatives and later completed two terms as Governor of Sokoto State.
Despite acknowledging the role the party played in his rise, Tambuwal said the current situation within the PDP forced him to make a new decision about his political future.
The former governor said his move to the African Democratic Congress was based on his belief that the country needs a stronger political platform that can promote accountability, integrity and national development.
He added that he believes the ADC can provide a better structure for democratic progress in Nigeria.
Tambuwal also said he remains committed to the values of democracy, justice and national unity as he begins a new political chapter in the ADC.
His defection adds to the growing number of politicians who have recently moved to the party.
In recent months, the ADC has received several high-profile members, including former presidential candidate Peter Obi.
