The Federal Inland Revenue Service (FIRS) has inducted a new cohort of professionals, marking a pivotal moment in Nigeria’s public sector reform.

The recruitment, celebrated as one of the most transparent and merit-based exercises in the country’s history, was carried out under the agency’s ‘Work With Us’ initiative.

The induction ceremony took place at the FIRS headquarters in Abuja and was led by Dr. Zachs Adedeji, Executive Chairman of FIRS. He commended the recruits and underscored their role in his vision to build a “people-driven institution,” where 80% of the work is executed in-house by FIRS personnel.

“Today marks not just the start of your employment, but the beginning of a personal and national journey,” Dr. Adedeji said. “Your competence, commitment, and values will shape the future of our nation’s fiscal stability.”

The recruitment process, which included digital screening and virtual interviews via 10 coordinated panels, was designed to ensure integrity and merit-based selection. It aligns with the agency’s broader transformation agenda built on three pillars: People, Processes, and Technology.

“Technology is not a substitute for competence, but a catalyst for precision, speed, and impact,” Dr. Adedeji added, while urging the new hires to embody innovation and integrity in public service.

Citing a Yoruba proverb—“A child not well-educated will sell the house built”—he emphasized the centrality of human capital in sustaining institutional success.

Collins Osagie Omokaro, Special Adviser on Communications and Advocacy, echoed this sentiment, describing the recruits as “co-architects of the country’s future” and vital to the people-first transformation underway at FIRS.

The induction programme includes training in tax administration, ethics, digital tools, and the FIRS 2025 Roadmap, ensuring that recruits are well-prepared to advance the agency’s reform agenda and contribute meaningfully to Nigeria’s economic resilience.

What you should know
FIRS has inducted new professionals selected through an unprecedentedly transparent recruitment process. The move reflects a shift toward people-centered institutional reform under Dr. Zachs Adedeji’s leadership, with an emphasis on competence, integrity, and national development.
