The Federal Government has reiterated its dedication to improving security in schools and protecting learners and citizens nationwide after the rescue of some abducted students from St Mary’s Catholic Primary and Secondary School, Papyri, Niger State.
Minister of Information and National Orientation, Alhaji Mohammed Idris, delivered the message on Wednesday during a visit to Governor Umaru Bago, leading a Federal Government delegation to the state.

In a statement issued by his Special Assistant on Media, Malam Rabiu Ibrahim, the minister described the children’s rescue as a deeply reassuring moment for their families and the nation. He noted that the operation’s success was made possible by the diligent work of security agencies, swift intervention from the Niger State Government, and strong community involvement.
Idris emphasised that “the protection and welfare of Nigerian children remain a central priority of the Federal Government,” stressing that the administration of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu remains unwavering in its plan to fortify school security nationwide. He stated that efforts will continue in collaboration with state governments to ensure that learning environments remain safe and that similar security breaches are prevented.

He applauded the synergy among security agencies, Niger State authorities, and local stakeholders, describing their coordination as instrumental in ensuring the safe return of the pupils.
According to the statement, Governor Bago expressed gratitude for the minister’s visit and praised the combined effort of security operatives and community members. He reaffirmed Niger State’s willingness to maintain strong cooperation with the Federal Government in pursuit of peace, safety, and social stability.
