A driver sustained injuries on Monday after a trailer collided with a truck on Karu Bridge, along the expressway linking Nasarawa and the Federal Capital Territory.
Videos of the crash quickly circulated on social media, sparking widespread fears that the incident may have resulted in multiple fatalities. However, the FCT Emergency Management Department (FEMD) later clarified that no lives were lost.
In a statement issued by Nkechi Isa, FEMD’s Head of Public Affairs, it was confirmed that, “No life was lost to the incident. The J5 driver, however, sustained some injuries and has been taken to the hospital.”
According to the department, the accident occurred when a sachet water truck applied its brakes upon spotting road maintenance personnel working near the Karu Bridge. A trailer approaching from behind subsequently rammed into the vehicle.
Emergency officials from both FEMD and the Federal Road Safety Corps responded promptly to the scene.
Karu Bridge has witnessed a troubling frequency of accidents in recent times, making this latest crash another addition to the growing list of road safety concerns along the corridor.
