Residents of Maiduguri were thrown into panic on Monday evening after several loud explosions were heard in different parts of the city.
The explosions were believed to have been caused by suspected Boko Haram insurgents who reportedly planted Improvised Explosive Devices (IEDs) in multiple locations.
Reports indicate that the blasts affected areas around the gate of the University of Maiduguri Teaching Hospital (UMTH), the Monday Market Roundabout and the Elkanemi axis.
Sources said the first explosion occurred at about 7 p.m., shortly after Muslims had broken their fast.
As of the time of filing this report, it was not clear if there were casualties.
The incident occurred only a few hours after terrorists reportedly attacked a military facility in Ajilari, located on the outskirts of Maiduguri.
According to sources, the attackers set parts of the facility on fire and escaped with a military patrol vehicle.
However, troops were said to have responded quickly and repelled the attack, killing several of the insurgents while others fled with gunshot injuries.
More details are expected to emerge later.
