In a move with significant political implications for Nasarawa State and the 2027 general elections, former Minister of Environment, Barrister Mohammed Hassan Abdullahi, has formally resigned from the All Progressives Congress (APC).
Abdullahi, who served in the administration of former President Muhammadu Buhari, submitted his resignation letter on June 1 to the APC chairman of his Uke ward in Karu Local Government Area of Nasarawa State. The letter, which was also sent to other party leaders, cited “personal reasons” for his decision to leave the party.
A close associate, Mr. Samuel Akala, confirmed the development to reporters in Lafia and hinted that Abdullahi may soon declare a new political affiliation, with possible intentions to contest the 2027 governorship election in Nasarawa State.
In his resignation letter, Abdullahi thanked the APC for the platform and opportunities it provided, stating, “I wish you and the party good luck.”
The former minister is no stranger to political influence in the state. Before his appointment to the federal cabinet, he served as Secretary to the State Government under former Governor Tanko Almakura, where he played a key role in governance and policy implementation.
His departure from the APC has triggered concerns within the party, particularly because of his wide network and strong grassroots following. Political observers believe his next move could reshape the dynamics of the 2027 race in Nasarawa State.
