United States President Donald Trump has informed his cabinet and close associates that billionaire Elon Musk will soon step down from his government position.

Previously, Trump appointed the Tesla and SpaceX CEO as a special government employee to lead efforts in reducing government spending and dismantling various US agencies.

According to Politico, both Trump and Musk have recently agreed that Musk will soon return to his businesses but gave no specific date.

At the time of filing this report, representatives for the White House, the Musk-led task force, and Musk have not made any comment on the development.

Trump and Musk have both recently indicated that Musk would move on but have not revealed when.

Trump, when asked if he wanted Musk to stay longer than his 130-day term, told reporters on Monday: “I think he’s amazing, but I also think he’s got a big company to run. At some point, he’s going to be going back. He wants to.”

Verily News reports that based on a 130-day term, Musk’s time as a special government employee could end as soon as May.

He told Fox News last week that he was confident he would finish most of the work to cut $1 trillion in federal spending.
