Diddy’s Legal Team Seeks Presidential Pardon as October Sentencing Looms

In a surprising legal maneuver just two months before his scheduled sentencing, music industry titan Sean “Diddy” Combs’ defense team has confirmed they are actively pursuing a presidential pardon from Donald Trump, following the hip-hop mogul’s federal conviction on prostitution-related charges.

Nicole Westmoreland, a member of Sean “Diddy” Combs’ all-star defense team, told CNN in an exclusive interview on Tuesday that the music mogul’s team has reached out to the Trump administration about a potential pardon following his conviction on two charges of transportation to engage in prostitution last month.

The 55-year-old entrepreneur and producer faces a potential sentence of up to 20 years in federal prison when he appears before U.S. District Judge Arun Subramanian on October 3, 2025. The government intends to seek a sentence of incarceration, and Combs still faces up to 20 years in prison for the two counts he has been convicted of, according to Assistant US Attorney Maurene Comey.

Prosecutors said their preliminary calculations indicate Combs should get at least 51 to 63 months in prison on the two convictions, or a sentence of roughly four to five years.

The pardon request comes despite President Trump’s lukewarm response to the possibility of clemency for the Bad Boy Records founder. Trump indicated that he was unlikely to pardon Combs during an interview with Newsmax last week, saying, “I was very friendly with him; I got along with him great, and he seemed like a nice guy. I didn’t know him well. But when I ran for office, he was very hostile.”

When pressed by Newsmax hosts about whether his past friendship with Combs would influence a potential pardon decision, Trump’s response suggested skepticism about granting such clemency.

Sean “Diddy” Combs, the onetime global hip-hop titan whose federal trial unveiled harrowing testimony accusing him of sexual abuse against women and forced drug-dazed “freak offs,” was acquitted Wednesday of racketeering conspiracy and sex trafficking but found guilty of lesser charges.

The mixed verdict represented a significant legal victory for Combs, who had faced the possibility of life in prison if convicted on the most serious racketeering charges. The jury found Sean Combs not guilty of racketeering conspiracy, the most serious charge. The jury found Combs guilty of transportation to engage in prostitution (in connection with his ex-girlfriend Cassie).

Despite his legal team’s efforts, Combs remains detained at the Metropolitan Detention Center in Brooklyn, with multiple bail requests denied by federal judges. The judge denied bail, and Combs will remain detained until his sentencing, which has been set for this fall.

The pardon request represents a high-stakes legal gambit by one of the entertainment industry’s most influential figures, whose empire once spanned music production, fashion, spirits, and media.

As the October sentencing date approaches, the question of presidential clemency adds another layer of complexity to a case that has already captivated public attention and marked a dramatic chapter in the ongoing reckoning within the entertainment industry.

The timing of the pardon request, coming so early in Trump’s presidency and before sentencing has even occurred, suggests the defense team views this as a crucial window of opportunity to secure clemency for their high-profile client.

WHAT YOU SHOULD KNOW

Sean “Diddy” Combs’ legal team is seeking a presidential pardon from Trump following the music mogul’s conviction on federal prostitution charges, but their chances appear slim. Combs faces up to 20 years in prison at his October 3rd sentencing, and despite acknowledging past friendliness with the rapper, President Trump has indicated he’s unlikely to grant clemency.

This pardon request represents a desperate legal strategy for one of hip-hop’s most powerful figures, who was acquitted of the most serious racketeering charges but still faces significant prison time for the remaining convictions.
