Popular Nigerian media personality, Chude Jideonwo, has sparked conversation online after claiming that a significant number of married individuals in Lagos are secretly gay.
Jideonwo made the assertion while reacting to speculation about his own sexuality following a recent interview he granted to Television Continental (TVC).
The remarks were contained in a snippet from his latest appearance on the Clarity Zone Podcast, where he addressed the rumours and broader social issues he believes reflect troubling trends in society.
Responding to the online speculation, the media entrepreneur dismissed the claims and suggested that such accusations often come from a place of misunderstanding and societal hypocrisy. According to him, many people who publicly condemn homosexuality may themselves be living double lives.
“People were saying maybe I’m gay after the TVC interview came out,” Jideonwo said during the podcast. “I’m like, Lagos is full of married gay people.”
Beyond the controversy surrounding his statement, Jideonwo also raised concerns about the increasing visibility of ritual-related advertisements on social media platforms, particularly on TikTok.
He expressed alarm over the apparent ease with which individuals promoting ritual practices and native spiritual services are able to reach large audiences online. According to him, some of these individuals openly broadcast from shrines during live sessions, attracting viewers who actively seek their services.
Recounting what he described as a disturbing experience, Jideonwo said he had personally encountered multiple live broadcasts in which people were advertising ritual services. He noted that viewers in the comment sections appeared eager to contact the advertisers, often requesting phone numbers and directions to the shrines.
“Ritual is advertised on TikTok. Native medicine — I have seen three people advertising, and people are engaging,” he said. “One of the women was live from her shrine and people were asking, ‘Mama, how can I reach you?’ with a phone number.”
The media personality lamented what he described as a worrying level of public engagement with such content, warning that it reflects deeper societal challenges regarding superstition, desperation and the influence of social media.
His comments have since triggered mixed reactions online, with some social media users debating his claims about hidden sexuality in marriages, while others focused on his concerns over the growing presence of ritual-related content on digital platforms.
