Former President Muhammadu Buhari has restated his unwavering commitment to the All Progressives Congress (APC), emphasizing that he remains a loyal member of the party that enabled him to serve two terms in office.

His declaration follows the recent defection of his close ally, former Kaduna State Governor Nasir el-Rufai, who left the APC for the Social Democratic Party (SDP). This move has fueled speculations about possible defections by other prominent figures within the ruling party.

However, in a statement released on Thursday by his media aide, Mallam Garba Shehu, Buhari dispelled any doubts regarding his political stance, making it clear that he remains dedicated to the APC.

“Without referring to any individual, group, or ongoing discussions within the party, former President Muhammadu Buhari reiterates that he remains a committed member of the APC and wishes to be recognized as such,” the statement read.

Buhari further stressed his deep-rooted loyalty, asserting that he would never abandon the party that provided him the platform to govern Nigeria for eight years. He also pledged to contribute to its growth and stability.

“He wants to leave no one in doubt that he would never turn his back on the party that gave him two terms in office and will do whatever he can to promote and strengthen it,” the statement continued.

The former president personally reaffirmed his political identity, insisting that his dedication to the APC remains unwavering.

“I am an APC member, and I like to be addressed as such. I will try to popularize the party by all means,” he declared.

Buhari expressed profound gratitude for the APC’s support throughout his presidency, describing it as the greatest honor he could receive. He also underscored the importance of preserving the efforts of the party’s founding members, urging for continued dedication to strengthening democratic governance in Nigeria.
