Africa’s most watched reality television show is poised to make history as MultiChoice Nigeria officially announced the tenth season of Big Brother Naija will premiere Saturday, July 26, 2025, with an unprecedented ₦150 million grand prize—the largest monetary reward in the show ever.
The much-anticipated season will launch with a double premiere extending into Sunday, July 27, marking what organizers describe as a milestone celebration for the reality series that has captivated African audiences since its Nigerian debut in 2006.
Speaking at a media briefing on Wednesday, MultiChoice executives confirmed that veteran host Ebuka Obi-Uchendu will return to shepherd contestants through what promises to be an intensely competitive 10-week journey culminating in the grand finale on October 5, 2025.
Busola Tejumola, Executive Head of General Entertainment at MultiChoice, positioned the upcoming season as more than just another iteration of the popular format. The announcement was made at a press briefing held on Wednesday, where organizers revealed that the winner of this milestone season will walk away with a record-breaking grand prize of N150 million, the highest since the show began in 2006.
The substantial prize increase—a 50% jump from Season 9’s ₦100 million—reflects the show’s growing cultural significance and commercial success across the continent. This financial milestone coincides with the series reaching its tenth season, a significant achievement in Nigerian television programming.
The selection process for Season 10 followed the show’s established format, beginning with online registrations from May 3-7, followed by physical auditions in major Nigerian cities—Lagos, Abuja, and Enugu—from May 16-18. Organizers emphasized their commitment to identifying Nigeria’s most dynamic and entertaining personalities for the milestone season.
Host Ebuka Obi-Uchendu provided impressive statistics about the series’ impact during the media event, revealing that across nine seasons, BBNaija has featured 197 housemates, distributed ₦637 million in prize money, and generated 709 days of broadcast content.
The previous season, themed “No Loose Guard,” introduced innovative gameplay mechanics with contestants initially entering as paired duos before being separated to compete individually. Kellyrae emerged as the Season 9 champion, claiming the ₦100 million prize and making history as the first married contestant to win the competition. His victory came after competing alongside notable housemates including Wanni X Handi, the Mbadiwe twins, Onyeka, Nelly, and Shaun.
For Season 10, while the official theme remains under wraps, organizers have promised its revelation during the premiere broadcast. The element of mystery surrounding the theme has generated considerable speculation among the show’s dedicated fan base.
Viewing arrangements for the premiere have been designed to accommodate the show’s diverse audience across multiple platforms. The 7 p.m. WAT launch will be broadcast live on Africa Magic Showcase, Africa Magic Family, and Showmax, with continuous 24-hour live streaming available on DStv Channel 198, GOtv Channel 49, and Showmax. Mobile viewers can access content through the DStv and GOtv Stream applications, available on both Google Play and iOS App Stores.
The traditional weekly Sunday eviction shows will continue throughout the season, maintaining the format that has become synonymous with the BBNaija experience. These elimination episodes have consistently generated significant social media engagement and television ratings across Nigeria and beyond.
The ₦150 million prize package represents more than just increased monetary value—it signals MultiChoice’s confidence in the show’s continued relevance and profitability in Nigeria’s competitive entertainment landscape.
With less than two weeks until the premiere, anticipation continues building among fans eager to witness how the landmark tenth season will honor the show’s legacy while pushing the boundaries of Nigerian reality television entertainment.
