BBNaija Season 10: Delta State Official Alleges Foul Play, Cites Regional Bias

A political storm has erupted following the conclusion of Big Brother Naija Season 10, with a Delta State government official formally accusing the show’s organizers of orchestrating a rigged outcome to prevent a contestant from his state from claiming consecutive victories.

Mr. Ossai Ovie Success, Senior Special Assistant on Media to the Delta State Governor, has publicly declared his intention to pursue legal action against the organizers of Africa’s most-watched reality television program, claiming that runner-up Dede was deliberately denied the winner’s crown due to regional considerations.

The controversy centers on Sunday night’s finale, which saw Imisi crowned the 10/10 winner and recipient of the N150 million grand prize after 10 weeks of competition. Dede, who finished in second place, had been widely tipped by supporters as a frontrunner heading into the showdown.

In a strongly-worded statement posted to his official X account shortly after the results were announced, Ossai alleged that producers implemented what he characterized as a calculated strategy to prevent back-to-back victories by contestants from Delta State, following Kellyrae’s triumph in Season 9.

“Dede was robbed by BBNaija organizers because Delta boy Kellyrae won last year’s season, so they didn’t want another Delta to win this year’s edition,” Ossai wrote, his remarks immediately sparking heated debate across social media platforms.

The government aide was emphatic that his grievance extended beyond regional loyalty, insisting that Dede’s performance throughout the season merited the top prize on its own merit. “She truly deserved the Big Brother Naija crown, not the second position. She ought to have been the winner, not because she’s from Delta, but because she made everyone who watched the show proud,” he stated.

Ossai went further, announcing his intention to initiate litigation on Dede’s behalf. “I’ll be suing Big Brother Naija on behalf of Dede because the voting was rigged. I’m highly disappointed in this season,” he declared, though he did not immediately provide evidence to substantiate the vote-rigging allegations.

The accusations represent a significant escalation in post-finale controversies that have occasionally marked previous seasons of the franchise, though it is rare for government officials to formally threaten legal proceedings against the show’s organizers.

Big Brother Naija, produced by MultiChoice Nigeria, has consistently maintained that its voting systems are transparent and verifiable, with results determined by public votes cast through official channels. As of press time, neither MultiChoice nor the show’s production team had issued a response to Ossai’s allegations.

The timing of the accusations is particularly sensitive, as the show has cultivated a reputation as one of Nigeria’s premier entertainment properties, attracting millions of viewers and substantial corporate sponsorship. Any questions about the integrity of its voting process could have far-reaching implications for the franchise’s credibility.

Legal experts have noted that any lawsuit would need to present concrete evidence of irregularities in the voting process, a potentially high bar given the multiple verification systems typically employed by major reality television productions.

Meanwhile, social media has been ablaze with divided opinions, with Dede’s supporters rallying behind Ossai’s claims while others have defended Imisi’s victory as legitimate. The new champion, who took home the N150 million prize package, has yet to publicly address the controversy surrounding her win.

As this story develops, questions remain about whether Ossai will follow through on his legal threat and what impact, if any, these allegations might have on the Big Brother Naija brand heading into future seasons.

WHAT YOU SHOULD KNOW

A Delta State government official, Mr. Ossai Ovie Success, has publicly accused Big Brother Naija organizers of rigging Season 10’s finale to prevent consecutive wins by Delta State contestants.

He claims runner-up Dede was deliberately denied victory after Kellyrae from Delta won Season 9, and has threatened legal action despite providing no evidence of vote manipulation. The allegations directly challenge the credibility of Nigeria’s biggest reality TV franchise, though organizers have yet to respond to the claims.
