Senate President Godswill Akpabio has confidently declared that by 2027, political parties will become irrelevant in Akwa Ibom State, citing a growing unity across party lines in support of his Senate bid and Governor Umo Eno’s leadership.

Speaking at his midterm empowerment event on Friday at Ikot Ekpene Township Stadium, Akpabio, who represents Akwa Ibom North West Senatorial District, declared the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) “in shreds,” stating that “its umbrella can no longer protect.”

Praising Governor Umo Eno, he said, “Umo Eno is a man of peace, a man of God—not one who only professes with his lips, but one who practices God in his heart. He has brought all of us together.”

According to Akpabio, all political parties have now united behind the re-election of Governor Eno and his own return to the Senate in 2027. “There is nothing like a political party in 2027 again in Akwa Ibom State,” he asserted.

The Senate President further stressed the alignment of the state’s leadership with the vision of President Bola Tinubu, Umo Eno, and himself.

Midterm Empowerment Programme Highlights

During the event, Akpabio empowered 1,690 constituents with various livelihood tools, including:

30 mini buses

67 tricycles (Keke Napep)

Cassava processing machines

Gas cookers

347 deep freezers

247 generators

Truckloads of 50kg bags of rice

₦500,000 cash grants for 2,000 beneficiaries each

Akpabio said the initiative is aimed at enhancing sustainable development and economic empowerment across the Ikot Ekpene Senatorial District.

What you should know
Senate President Godswill Akpabio is positioning himself and Governor Umo Eno as central unifying figures in Akwa Ibom politics, declaring the collapse of party divides ahead of the 2027 elections, while backing the message with a large-scale empowerment programme for his constituents.
