The African Democratic Congress in the Wuse Ward of the Federal Capital Territory has announced the indefinite suspension of Senator Ireti Kingibe over alleged violations of party rules.

The decision was made public by the Wuse Ward Chairman, Kanayo Chukwu, during a meeting with party executives and members in Abuja.

ADC Abuja Office

Chukwu explained that the action followed a large ward meeting held on March 10, 2026, where party members reviewed several complaints raised against the senator. According to him, more than 2,000 members attended the gathering where the allegations were discussed.

The complaints reportedly included claims that Kingibe took possession of the ward’s official membership register, attempted to organise a separate registration process, and repeatedly failed to attend ward meetings. She was also accused of refusing to pay required party dues and allegedly showing disrespect to the party’s leadership.

Chukwu stated that after reviewing the accusations, members agreed that disciplinary action should be taken.

“After due consideration of the above grave offences, a motion was moved by the general house for the immediate suspension of Senator Ireti Kingibe, and it was ratified by a two-thirds majority of the executives present,” he said.

The ward chairman added that the resolution has been forwarded to Omale Sule, who heads the party at the Abuja Municipal Area Council.

Sule confirmed receiving the communication and explained that the party would follow its standard procedures before any final determination is made.

“As the party chairman at the local government level, I must wait for the official submission. Once received, it will be forwarded to the state chairman for further action,” he said.

The Chairman of the ADC in the FCT, Clement Ehijiator, also addressed the development, noting that the matter arose during a meeting initially convened to discuss membership registration and other party activities in the capital.

He assured members that the leadership would carefully review the report and examine the allegations in line with the party’s constitution before forwarding its findings to the national leadership of the African Democratic Congress.

“As the constitutional chairman of the party in the FCT, I have received the report. We will examine the allegations and take appropriate steps in line with the party’s constitution before forwarding it to the national leadership,” he said.

At the same gathering, party members also passed a vote of confidence in Ehijiator, commending his leadership of the ADC within the Federal Capital Territory.

What you should know

The suspension of Ireti Kingibe by the Wuse Ward chapter of the African Democratic Congress is part of an internal party disciplinary process.

While ward executives can recommend sanctions, the final decision often requires review by higher party structures at the local government, state and national levels.

The development could have political implications in the Federal Capital Territory, where Kingibe currently represents the senatorial district in the National Assembly.
