The Corps Marshal of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), Shehu Mohammed, has approved a major redeployment of senior officers across Nigeria.

According to a statement issued on Saturday by the Corps’ spokesman, Olusegun Ogungbemide, the exercise involved three newly appointed Deputy Corps Marshals, two Assistant Corps Marshals, and 24 Corps Commanders.

The statement noted that the move is aimed at enhancing the Corps’ leadership structure and boosting operational efficiency towards safer road usage nationwide.

The statement said, “The redeployed senior officers, Deputy Corps Marshal Aliyu Datsama, the erstwhile Assistant Corps Marshal in charge of Special Duties and External Relations Department is to henceforth oversee the affairs of the Department of Motor Vehicle Administration; DCM Pauline Olaye who was in charge of Project Implementation Office at the National Headquarters is to take over Special Duties and External Relations while the  Deputy Corps Marshal Technical Service Department; DCM Ahmed Hassan is to remain as DCM TSD at the National Headquarters, Abuja.

“In addition to the above, the Corps Marshal also approved the redeployment of Assistant Corps Marshal Godwin Omiko, the erstwhile ACM Motor Vehicle Administration Department to now head the Project Implementation Office; as Assistant Corps Marshal in charge of Corps Safety Engineering Office, ACM Emmanuel Dung is to move resume duty as ACM Motor Vehicle Administration at the national headquarters.”

Sector Commanders in several states, including Ekiti, Plateau, Katsina, Kano, Kaduna, Minna, Kogi, Bayelsa, Taraba, Jigawa, Osun, Imo, and Zamfara have also been newly appointed.

The statement added that in a historic development, the Corps has appointed Corps Commander Ann Odeleye as Acting Zonal Commanding Officer of RS Zone 2 Lagos, covering Lagos and Ogun States. She becomes the first female officer to hold this position in the Corps’ history.

The Corps Marshal expressed strong confidence in the leadership and capabilities of the newly posted officers, urging them to deploy their experience and professionalism in driving the Corps’ safety mandate.

The statement further stated, “The redeployments take immediate effect.”

What you should know

The recent redeployment exercise by the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) marks a significant step towards reinforcing road safety leadership across Nigeria. Corps Marshal Shehu Mohammed’s approval of these changes signals an intent to ensure that only the most capable hands are positioned to drive the Corps’ safety mandate.

With the redeployment of three Deputy Corps Marshals, two Assistant Corps Marshals, and 24 Corps Commanders, the FRSC aims to bring fresh energy and strategic direction to key departments and state commands.

Notably, DCM Aliyu Datsama and DCM Pauline Olaye have taken on critical new leadership roles, while DCM Ahmed Hassan maintains his position at the Technical Services Department.

A particularly historic moment came with the appointment of Corps Commander Ann Odeleye as the Acting Zonal Commanding Officer for RS Zone 2 Lagos, covering Lagos and Ogun States, making her the first woman in FRSC history to attain such a role.

This milestone is seen as a positive step towards greater gender representation in the Corps’ leadership.

The redeployments, effective immediately, reflect the FRSC’s commitment to innovation, professionalism, and gender inclusivity while reinforcing its broader goal of ensuring safer highways across the country through strategic human resource management.
