Retired Vice Admiral Ibok-Ete Ibas, newly appointed Sole Administrator of Rivers State, has made his first official appearance at the National Economic Council (NEC) meeting held at the Presidential Villa in Abuja.

The NEC meeting, presided over by Vice President Kashim Shettima, brought together a mix of state governors and deputy governors from across the country.

Governor Sheriff Oborevwori of Delta State, who defected to the All Progressives Congress (APC) just a day earlier, said the opening prayers on the directive of Vice President Shettima.

Among the governors present at the meeting are Benue State Governor, Rev. Fr. Hycinth Alia, Kwara, Abdulrahman Abdulrazak, Edo, Monday Okpebholo, Cross River, Bassey Out, among others.

Several deputy governors were also in attendance, reflecting a broad representation of Nigeria’s 36 states.

What you should know:
Vice Admiral Ibok-Ete Ibas’ presence at the NEC meeting as Sole Administrator of Rivers State underscores a major political shift in the state’s governance.

His appointment, following the suspension of an elected governor, places Rivers under federal supervision, a rare move that may have wider implications for democratic processes and state autonomy in Nigeria.
