Protests broke out in Jos, the capital of Plateau State, on Monday morning as residents demonstrated against the ongoing killings of indigenous people by gunmen believed to be Fulani militants.

Led by Christian leaders, including the state chairman of the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN), Rev. Polycarp Lubo, the protest began at Fawvwei Junction community road, causing a heavy gridlock and stranding commuters.

The protest follows a recent surge in violent attacks across several communities in the state, with over 100 lives lost in Bokkos and Bassa Local Government Areas within the past two weeks.

“We are not happy over the continuous attacks and killings by gunmen in our communities. That’s why we have come out again to protest these happenings,” said Gyang Dalyop, one of the protesters.

Another protester, Hannatu Philip, urged the government to act swiftly before the situation worsens beyond control.

Holding placards with various inscriptions, the protesters were seen marching towards the Rayfield Government House, demanding justice and immediate intervention.
