Nollywood Actress Dies
Nollywood actress Atinuke Remilekun Kareem has died after battling breast cancer, leaving colleagues, friends and family members mourning another loss in the Yoruba movie industry.
Kareem’s death was announced on Tuesday, September 1, 2026, by the Ogun State chapter of the Theatre Arts and Motion Pictures Practitioners Association of Nigeria (TAMPAN).
The announcement was made through the association’s Executive Governor, Owolabi Ajasa, as the group informed members and the public of the actress’ death.
Her passing came only about two weeks after the death of veteran Yoruba actor Taiwo Hassan, popularly known as Ogogo, who also died after reportedly battling cancer.
Before her death, Kareem had made a public appeal for financial assistance to help her continue receiving treatment for breast cancer. The actress had revealed that the illness had placed a heavy financial burden on her family and that a large amount of money had already been spent on her care.
She also sought support from Nigerians, explaining that although members of TAMPAN had contributed towards her treatment, the assistance available was not enough to cover the cost of her medical care.
Kareem, who was a mother of two young children, had continued to seek help as she fought the disease. Her appeal drew attention from members of the public and people within the entertainment industry, with some individuals contributing money and offering prayers and other forms of support.
However, despite the efforts made to assist her and the treatment she received, the actress eventually lost her battle with the illness.
TAMPAN Ogun State expressed appreciation to those who supported Kareem during her period of sickness. The association acknowledged the financial contributions, prayers, encouragement and other assistance offered to the actress and her family.
The group said the support she received from individuals and colleagues provided assistance to her family while she was undergoing treatment.
Following the news of her death, TAMPAN extended its condolences to Kareem’s family, friends, colleagues and other loved ones. The association also urged those close to her to find strength as they deal with the loss.
