PDP chairman resigns
Alhaji Muhammad Bello Aliyu Goronyo, the factional chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Sokoto State, has resigned from the party.
Goronyo, who belongs to the camp led by Tanimu Turaki, announced his decision in a resignation letter dated August 30, 2026.
The letter was addressed to the PDP chairman of Goronyo Ward in Goronyo Local Government Area of the state.
His resignation took effect on August 31, 2026.
He said his decision was based on personal reasons and did not give further details about what led to his departure from the party.
Goronyo also expressed appreciation to the PDP leadership and members for giving him the opportunity to serve in the party.
He said his time as a member provided him with experiences that he valued.
The former factional chairman asked the ward leadership to treat his letter as an official notice of his resignation.
He also requested that his name be removed from the party’s membership register.
He has now been appointed Director-General of the campaign organisation of the ADC governorship candidate, Manir Muhammad Dan’Iya.
