Kwankwaso declares support for Tinubu’s second term

A chieftain of the All Progressives Congress and Director of Finance at the Hadejia Jama’are River Basin Development Authority, Dr Musa Illiyasu Kwankwaso, has called on Nigerians to support President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for a second term in the 2027 general elections.

Kwankwaso, who previously served as commissioner for rural and community development in Kano State, said the president had shown commitment to democracy, peace and development since taking office.

He pointed to Tinubu’s role in the signing of a peace agreement ahead of the 2027 elections as one of the actions he believes shows the president’s support for a peaceful democratic process.

He also referred to the recently concluded Osun State governorship election, saying the president’s conduct during the election showed that his administration was willing to allow the democratic process to take its course.

In a statement issued on Wednesday, Kwankwaso said the Federal Government had carried out several development projects across the country, with many of them located in northern states.

He said the administration had made progress in tackling insecurity in farming communities, allowing some residents who had been forced from their homes by bandit attacks to return and resume agricultural activities.

Kwankwaso also pointed to major road projects in the North as part of the reasons he believes Tinubu deserves another term.

He said more than 1,400 kilometres of major roads were being worked on, alongside projects such as the Ajaokuta-Kaduna-Kano gas pipeline and metropolitan rail developments.

Among the road projects he mentioned were the reconstruction of the Abuja-Kaduna-Zaria-Kano highway, the rehabilitation of the Kano-Maiduguri road, the dualisation of the Kano-Katsina road and the reconstruction of the Kano-Hadejia road.

He also mentioned the proposed 1,068-kilometre Sokoto-Badagry Superhighway, which is expected to have a rail component.

According to him, the project could improve the movement of people, goods and services between northern and southern parts of the country.

On rail transportation, Kwankwaso listed the Kano-Kaduna railway project, the Kano-Maradi rail line and the proposed Kaduna Light Rail among projects that could improve transportation and reduce pressure on major roads.

He said developments in the energy sector were also part of the administration’s plans to improve economic activity.

These include the AKK gas pipeline, the 1,350-megawatt Gwagwalada Independent Power Plant and solar power projects in Kaduna.

Kwankwaso further cited projects in the health and agricultural sectors, including the proposed upgrade of Misau General Hospital to a Federal Medical Centre, improvements at the Reference Hospital in Kaduna and the rehabilitation of the Kumpada Irrigation Project.

He argued that the projects showed that the Federal Government had continued to invest in the northern region and other parts of Nigeria.

The APC chieftain urged Nigerians to assess government policies based on their results rather than relying on what he described as political claims against the administration.

He particularly appealed to people in the North to support Tinubu’s bid for a second term, saying another four years would give the government more time to complete ongoing projects and continue programmes already started.

Kwankwaso said continuity in government would help prevent major projects from being abandoned and allow the administration to build on the work carried out during Tinubu’s first term.
