Tinubu makes appointment
President Bola Tinubu has reappointed Pokop Bupwatda as the Chief Medical Director of Jos University Teaching Hospital, JUTH, in Plateau State.
Bupwatda’s new tenure will begin on August 30, 2026, following the approval of his continued leadership of the federal tertiary health institution.
The development was announced by the hospital in a statement signed by Bridget Omini, Assistant Director of Information, Protocol and Public Relations at JUTH.
The hospital management, workers and patients welcomed the decision and congratulated Bupwatda on his return for another term. His reappointment reflects the confidence placed in his leadership of the hospital.
Bupwatda expressed appreciation to President Tinubu for giving him another opportunity to lead the institution. He said his administration would build on the work already carried out during his first tenure.
The medical director is expected to continue efforts aimed at improving healthcare services, developing hospital facilities and supporting the welfare of medical and other hospital workers.
His plans are also expected to remain in line with the Federal Government’s health sector agenda.
Bupwatda is a medical doctor and public health consultant who has spent several years working at JUTH.
During his career at the hospital, he served in different clinical and administrative positions before taking over its top management position.
Before becoming the substantive Chief Medical Director, he served as Chairman of the hospital’s Medical Advisory Committee.
He later became Acting Chief Medical Director before being appointed to the position on a permanent basis in 2022.
He assumed office as substantive CMD on August 30, 2022, and has since been involved in several programmes aimed at improving the hospital’s operations and services.
Under his administration, JUTH has worked on projects involving healthcare delivery, infrastructure, digital systems and diagnostic services.
The hospital has also pursued the use of electronic medical records as part of efforts to improve the way patients’ information is managed.
