A member of the Kano State House of Assembly representing Tudun Wada Constituency, Sule Lawan Shuwaki, has defected from the All Progressives Congress (APC) to the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
The Speaker of the Assembly, Ismail Falgore, announced the defection during plenary on Tuesday after reading Shuwaki’s resignation letter.
In the letter, Shuwaki said his decision followed “deep reflection and consultations” with his political associates, supporters and family members.
He thanked APC leaders at different levels for the support he received while in the party but said he had decided to take a new political path that aligns with his principles.
Shuwaki also revealed that he had joined the PDP several months ago but delayed making the move public because he was still consulting with political stakeholders.
The lawmaker appreciated his former associates and supporters in Tudun Wada for their support and urged them to remain united despite their political differences.
He called on residents to maintain peaceful and cordial relationships regardless of the political parties they support.
Speaking on the development, Speaker Falgore said the Assembly leadership received Shuwaki’s resignation letter about two months ago.
He explained that the letter was not immediately read because the leadership had continued discussions with Shuwaki to confirm whether he was certain about his decision.
The formal reading of the letter during Tuesday’s plenary confirmed Shuwaki’s defection from the APC to the PDP.
