The Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA) has explained the revocation of the land title of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) secretariat in Abuja, stating the party’s failure to pay over N7 million in ground rent since 2006.

FCTA Director of Lands, Chijioke Nwankwoeze, made the disclosure while briefing journalists shortly after the administration’s executive council meeting chaired by the FCT Minister, Nyesom Wike, on Wednesday.

Nwankwoeze futher clarified that while the PDP headquarters at Wadata Plaza does not belong to the political party, the owner of the property also owes the administration from 1998 till date, leaving the administration no choice but to revoke the land titles alongside over 4,000 landowners who have defaulted.

He urged residents to desist from blackmailing the FCT Administration, maintaining that all actions are for the good of the people.

The Director of Lands further advised affected property owners interested in offsetting their debt to appeal to Wike to reconsider his decision and issue a grace period.

Apart from issues surrounding land titles in the metropolis, the FCT executive council also approved the sum of N1.940,572,410 for the procurement of earth moving equipment such as excavators, wind loader and others to enhance operational activities of the Abuja metropolitan management council.
