Suspected political thugs have reportedly set ablaze the office of the African Democratic Congress in Ubima Community, located in Ikwerre Local Government Area of Rivers State.
The community is the hometown of former Minister of Transportation Chibuike Amaechi.
The attackers were also said to have invaded the community with heavy gunfire, shooting sporadically and causing panic among residents.
Amaechi is one of the prominent leaders of the African Democratic Congress, a political platform positioning itself as a major opposition force ahead of the 2027 presidential election, where it aims to challenge the administration of Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
Reports indicate that Amaechi was scheduled to visit Ubima on Friday to formally register with the party at the ward level, a move that has drawn attention within the political landscape.
Sources revealed that the armed thugs stormed the community on Thursday night, firing heavily while setting the party secretariat on fire.
The situation reportedly escalated on Friday morning when the same group returned and mounted a roadblock along the Omuawa–Ubima Road. Vehicles displaying ADC banners were reportedly stopped and prevented from entering the community.
Security operatives were later mobilised to the area, and their intervention helped restore calm after the tension created by the attack.
