A group of women under the aegis of Concerned Market Women staged a peaceful protest in Benin City on Monday, condemning the killing of 38-year-old housewife Success Izekor by her husband, Kelvin Izekor.
Success, who was four months pregnant, was allegedly stabbed to death by her husband at their home on Upper Mission Road, Benin City, on February 22, 2025.
The protesters, carrying placards with various inscriptions, decried the increasing cases of domestic violence against women. They appealed to the government to ensure justice for the deceased.
According to the protesters, Kelvin Izekor’s mother is allegedly boasting that her son will be freed on the grounds of mental illness, despite his arrest and ongoing trial.
The Edo State Police Command had confirmed the murder, stating that the police received information that Kelvin Izekor had killed his wife and was about to be lynched by an irate mob.
The police rescued the suspect and took him into custody for investigation. The victim was rushed to the hospital, where she was confirmed dead.
The Edo State Commissioner of Police, Betty Enekpen Isokpan Otimenyin, condemned the rise in domestic violence and assured the public of a thorough investigation, vowing that anyone found culpable would face the full wrath of the law.
