Senator Orji Uzor Kalu, a Nigerian federal lawmaker, has revealed that the All Progressives Congress (APC) has already chosen its presidential candidate for the 2027 election.
According to Kalu, President Bola Tinubu is the only candidate, and he must complete his eight-year term in office.
Kalu emphasised the need for an Igbo president but made it clear that it won’t happen in 2027.
Instead, he believes that when Tinubu finishes his term, the Igbo people must present a candidate acceptable to all Nigerians.
Kalu stressed that no single zone can elect a president, citing Tinubu’s election as an example, where he was chosen by all Nigerians, not just the Yoruba.
The Igbo-born lawmaker also praised Tinubu’s economic reforms, saying that the president has made significant repairs to the economy, and things are starting to pick up again.
Kalu noted that Tinubu hasn’t indicated whether he’ll run for re-election, but the party has given him a vote of confidence, mandating him to run again.
“You can see the repairs he has done to the economy and things are starting to pick up again. This president is not even doing politics. He has never told anybody he wants to run for election or not.
“But as a party, we have mandated him to run and given him a vote of confidence. The NEC has given him a vote of confidence, through a motion proposed by the Governor of Imo State and announced by Dr Abdullahi Ganduje, who is the National Chairman of the party,” he told Channels TV.
