Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan (PDP, Kogi Central) has called for her Senate probe proceedings to be broadcast live to ensure transparency.
Referred to the Senate’s Ethics and Disciplinary Committee following a dispute with Senate President Godswill Akpabio over seating arrangements, Akpoti-Uduaghan stated that while she is prepared to face the panel, she insists the proceedings must not be held behind closed doors.
In a statement posted on social media on Thursday, the senator revealed that she had previously refrained from publicly commenting on the issue and other Senate matters but had now decided to break her silence. She urged Nigerians to follow the proceedings closely and reiterated her commitment to transparency.
Akpoti-Uduaghan shared a petition written by the Northern Youths Advocacy for Excellence (NOYAD), calling on the Senate to “investigate and discipline” her over allegations of “corruption, breach of trust, and victimisation of local content committee staff.”
“This petition came to my notice a few hours ago,” she wrote. “In as much as I have refrained from publicly speaking on the matter and a lot of occurrences at the Senate under Senate President Akpabio, it’s about time I break my silence.”
The senator made an open request to be invited to speak on the issues on national television.
“Arise News, set a date and I shall be in your studio in person. Spare no questions,” she wrote.
“And to Nigerians, please be sure to join the probe which I shall insist would be covered live.
“The next few days and weeks shall be interesting but will shape the standard and quality of Nigeria’s leadership.”
